Make Medicare Work Project Coordinator

Overview of Responsibilities:

This full time position is responsible for implementing the goals and objectives of the Make Medicare Work Project.  The project focus is disability-related education and outreach pertaining to the Medicare Part D prescription drug programs and state prescription drug assistance programs.  Education and outreach efforts will focus on underserved populations including the deaf/hard of hearing communities and people with mental illness.  Education and outreach will occur in group settings and one-on-one assistance with consumers.


The Coordinator will provide trainings, conduct outreach meetings with service providers and consumer groups, and assist in program evaluation.  The coordinator will be expected to represent PCIL at Project related meetings, workshops, and seminars and events.  Travel within suburban Cook County is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience or other evidence of necessary background and skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and public speaking skills. 
  • Sign language skills a plus
  • Must be able to travel within service area frequently and to other areas of the state as necessary.
  • Must be able to work independently with self-direction, and as part of a team.
  • Prefer knowledge of suburban Cook County disability-related service providers.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively to satisfy project timelines and other requirements.

Community Reintegration/Money Follows the Person (CR/MFP) Advocate


Overview of Responsibilities:

The CR/MFP Advocate assesses consumers for eligibility in programs that assist people with disabilities to transition from nursing homes to the community.  Responsibilities include interviewing potential program consumers and assisting consumers in writing and achieving individual goals.  Other responsibilities include developing consumer service plans and maintaining consumer records in compliance with State’s MFP procedures and guidelines.

The CR/MFP also helps provide direct individual advocacy for PCIL consumers, as well as teaching consumers how to be better self-advocates.

  • Bachelors Degree is preferred
  • Personal experience with disability issues is a plus
  • Experience with social program assessment tools a plus
  • Reliable transportation throughout suburban Cook County area is required
  • Candidates must be able to visit consumers living in a variety of housing settings (i.e. apartments, single-family, SRO, etc.).

Program Assistant

Progress Center for Independent Living is seeking a person with strong administrative and computer skills for our Program Assistant position. 


Overview of Responsibilities:

This part-time position works in our main office in Forest Park with their primary responsibility being the maintenance and tracking of PCIL consumer files and records.  This person is also responsible for maintaining PCIL’s timesheet database, used by PCIL staff to track work time.

Essential Functions Include


  • Maintains Consumer Service Records, both hard copy files and electronic records.
  • Assists with gathering data and generating various reports from PCIL’s database
  • Maintains Center timesheet database including correcting data entry errors
  • Assists with maintenance, preparation and printing of mailing lists.
  • Reports to Program Director

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Access and Outlook.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities, or first hand experience with a disability preferred.
